Scrum Roles

In comparison to more traditional software development approaches, Scrum roles are very different. Roles and expectations that are clearly defined help individuals in carrying out their responsibilities effectively. The Product Owner, Development Team, and Scrum Master are the three roles in Scrum. The Scrum Team is the term for all roles together.

The roles are not rigidly assigned to specific people but are assigned based on the individual project.

Product Owner

By defining product features, ranking them into a list, selecting which should be at the top of the list for the next Sprint, and iteratively re-prioritizing and improving the list, the Product Owner is responsible for maximizing return on investment (ROI). They are aware of the product's business requirements, including market developments and client expectations. Product owners frequently communicate with product managers and other external stakeholders because they need to know how the Scrum team fits into larger objectives.

  • Manage the product backlog by ordering work by priority.

  • Set the team's product vision.

  • Communicate with outside parties and communicate their requirements to the group.

  • Make sure the team is concentrated on meeting product demands by communicating with them and monitoring their progress.

Scrum Master

A Scrum team must follow the Scrum values as closely as possible, and the Scrum Master is in charge of making sure this happens. This implies that they guide the team toward its goals, organize and conduct meetings, and resolve any challenges the group may encounter. He or she instructs, mentors, and guides the Product Owner, Team, and the rest of the company in the effective use of Scrum.

  • Organize daily standups, often known as Scrum meetings.

  • Organize sprint planning sessions.

  • To determine what worked well and what needs to be changed for the next sprint, do "retrospective" reviews.

  • Through individual meetings or other forms of contact, stay updated the team members.

  • Communicate with stakeholders outside the team to manage challenges that the team faces.

Development Team

A group of people that collaborate to create and deliver the needed and committed product improvements is known as a development team. Members of it are cross-functional and capable of completing the sprint objectives.

  • The Product Owner specifies the product, and the Development Team creates it.

  • The Development Team has all the necessary skills to complete each Sprint's product delivery.

  • Utilize data to identify development best practices.

  • Test prototypes and items, as well as other methods of quality control.

  • The Development Team organizes themselves.
